Media Chatter: Suri Cruise Has Public Meltdown

by Tamara on November 11, 2009

in Suri Cruise, media chatter monday

I saw this headline on the Internet page I opened up the this morning: Suri Cruise Has a Public Meltdown!

C’mon. Is this REALLY newsworthy?! The only thing newsworthy about this story is that the media feels they need to cover it. Should the media announce when my kid is having a tantrum? She is 3 years old, so what do you expect? Ok, so she always looks like an American Girl doll with her pretty (and uber expensive) designer duds, but do you think she cares about that when her mommy tells her she can’t have that ice cream she’s been eyeing? Nope. Insert 3 year old tantrum. In situations like this, she could care less that the paparazzi is always on their heels, watching every move they make. In situations like this, she is just a kid.

So tell me again why the media needs to waste prime space on the Internet to tell us this story? I get that they want to show us how celebs are just normal people, and like I said in a previous post, I love learning that stuff. But I want to hear about how celeb moms handle their kids and the daily struggles they create. So the real story here should have been how Stepford wifey Katie Holmes managed Suri’s meltdown. I want to see if she starts to count “1-2-3″ and gives her a time out right there in the middle of Time Square. Or if she starts yelling at her out of the kind of pure frustration that only a mother of a toddler knows.

Yep. Media gurus, paparazzi stalkers, you’ve mucked it up again. Next time, get the REAL story. We see toddlers melting down all day long, so please don’t feel the need to share more toddler tantrums with us. Instead, tell us how our rich and famous counterparts get through it.

Thanks,

What do you think when you see stories like this in the media?

That's just crazy! I really feel bad for celebs in these cases. I mean.. if I was on the internet (against my will) during a really stressful parenting moment… geez! I'd be so humiliated!

Don't worry Katie H! We mommies know what it's like… our kids freak out, too. They do it wearing clothes from Target…

Well said. I would rather read about how Katie calmed her down or bribed her to stop the fit throwing while in public. Yeah, the Target thing was funny!

Great post! I sometimes wonder about the conversation the paparazzi talk to their significant others when they get home in the evenings.

"Today I took a picture of a 3 year old having a fit!"

Spouse says: "And I dealt with your 3 year old having fits all day. Now its your turn!"

You aren't so special now, are you, Mr. Paparazzi Guy!

Great post.
Can you imagine Suri reading articles about herself when she's older… I forsee her humiliation in the sixth grade… "Suri Cruise poops her pants on the playground"… poor kid.

She is a beautiful girl. Hopefully her parents fame won't screw her up too much.

That is a dumb article to say the least. Why do we care that Suri had a meltdown. I could really careless. I totally agree with what you are saying.

The whole thing is crazy, who cares. I am so with you on the how did Katie handle it though, now THAT would be a little more useful to the people reading/watching it.

Although, I have to admit, it really is nice seeing other peoples children have tantrums to make me feel not so alone…celebrity or not. :)
